Zyban is purposely made for helping addicted smokers break the habit without having to combat severe withdrawal effects and cravings. The drug is effective in treatment of seasonal affective and major depressive disorders. When Bupropion tablet is taken, it helps in suppression for tobacco cravings. The drug does not contain nicotine supplement like the nicotine replacements hence does not help you abort smoking in the same way that replacement therapies do. The manner in which the drug operates is not exactly known.
Bupropion is a quit-smoking aid that is nicotine free. In place of nicotine, it comes with same ingredients that are used in anti-depressant drug Wellbutrin. It functions through enhancing performance of several neurotransmitters in the brain. When you have several of these chemicals working together, the nicotine withdrawal effects are greatly suppressed hence the urge to smoke is trivial and easy to manage. Above a third of patients who use Zyban and are also members of a support group are usually capable of getting out of smoking habit within a month. Zyban is an important drug especially to smokers affected by conditions such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis decides it’s time to break the addiction.
Directions for use
The suggested Zyban dose, and should not be exceeded, is 300mg daily and should be split into two 150 mg doses. The smoker should start taking a dose of 150 mg the firs three days and then adjust the dose to the usual 300 mg daily afterwards. The treatment is normally introduced while the patient is still smoking. However, a cessation date for smoking should be established possibly within the first couple of treatment week. This therapy should continue for a period of 7-12 weeks depending on the level of efficiency of the medication. By the 7th week, the smoker is supposed to have reduced smoking significantly but if there are no changes experienced by then; the therapy should be discontinued since chances of the smoker giving up the habit are slim.
Skipped doses should be taken as soon as you recall. However, if it is almost time for your next dose just forget about the skipped dose and take your next regular dose normally. Avoid taking a double portion to compensate the skipped dose.
Adverse effects
The adverse effects are unpredictable. Inform your health care expert immediately if you experience intensity change of any kind. Only your health care provider can determine whether it is safe to continue taking the medication. Insomnia and dry mouth are the most common side effects experienced. These effects are normally minor and do disappear after a short period. If insomnia is a great problem, Zyban should then not be consumed when you are about to go to bed or you can talk with your doctor to reduce the dose administered.
