Wartec (wartek) is applied in treatment of external genital warts. The medication kills the warts and eventually shed off. It functions through inhibiting the viral wart cells from duplicating and multiplying thereby facilitating development of healthy tissue. The medication has trivial side effects hence it is suitable for home treatment use.
Wartek comes with podophyllotoxin incorporated in a white cream base used in topical application. Podofilox plays the role of a metaphase inhibitor to the multiplying cells. It suppresses division of the condylomata acuminata virus affected cells.
The cream is applied directly on the genital warts at least two times per day, morning and evening, for three days persistently followed by a four-day break of no application. The affected region is supposed to be thoroughly washed using soap and water and then wiped dry prior to applying the medication. The applied cream should be left on the skin until it dries but should under no condition be washed away.
In general, many patients require less than 30 loops per application but you can apply up to 50 loops in every application. The treatment should not exceed 10 cm of wart tissue and less than 0.5 ml of the solution daily. The recommended application method treatment duration and application frequency should not be surpassed.
Local irritation is not a strange phenomenon on the second and third of application. This is attributed to formation of wart necrosis. In many cases, the reactions are minor and often fade away after a number of days.
The podofilox is a strong vesicant hence should be used exactly as instructed by the physician. The cream is meant for topical application only. Extra caution should be taken to prevent the medication from coming into contact with vagina, cervix, tongue, eyes and mucosal tissue. In case the solution is accidentally spilled on healthy skin, it should be washed off vigorously using water and soap and rinsed off well. Avoid applying the solution in abrasions and open wounds. Self-treating genital warts with an expanded region exceeding 10 cm is not recommended.
