paroxetine hydrocloride

Seroxat is categorized as an antidepressant used in treating obsessive compulsive disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, social and general anxiety disorders and panic attacks.

Note that the effects of Seroxat will not be felt for several weeks. Nevertheless, it would be important to continue taking Seroxat in order to have it working properly as well as allowing for effective treatment even in cases when Seroxat does not seem to be very effective.

It is also important that you continue taking Seroxat even when you start feeling better so as to prevent the return of the symptoms. This takes a minimum of 4 to 6 months after an individual has recovered from the depression and even longer in case of panic disorders, compulsions and obsessions. Seroxat is not habit forming.

Seroxat Effective dosage

Initially, paroxetine hydroxide (Seroxat) dose is 10mg in case of panic disorder while all the other disorders take 20 mg, in the morning for all cases. The dose should be increased by 10 mg weekly, until you reach the maximum of 50 mg in case of depression, 40 mg for PTSD, 20 mg in case of General anxiety and 60mg for anything else.

Seroxat Side Effects

Common side effects of SSRIs include dry mouth, nausea, headaches, insomnia or sleepiness, diarrhea, constipation, decreased sexual desire, weight gain and sweating. The side effects disappear within a few weeks except for decreased sexual drive and weight gain. Consumption of the drug should be stopped gradually, the fastest being 4-5days. This would prevent the harsh discontinuation syndromes or withdrawal.
