Naprosyn is a pain reliever as well as anti- inflammatory. It can treat muscle aches, headaches, joint stiffness and swelling due to arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and attacks of gout. It is classified as an NSAID (non-steroidal ant inflammatory) drug.
Naprosyn has antipyretic and analgesic properties. The mechanism by which the ion of Naprosyn works is not clearly understood, just like for other NSAIDs but it may have a lot to do with the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
How to take Naprosyn
It is not very likely that you are on a dosing schedule for Naprosyn since it is often only taken when needed. However if you are on such a schedule, take missed doses as soon as they are remembered as long as time for the next dose has not yet come to avoid doubling up on the dose.
Naprosyn Side effects
If any side effects develop and become severe, you should inform you doctor as only he is in a position to determine whether you stop or continue to use Naprosyn. The side effects are bruising, abdominal pain, labored breathing, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, itching, heartburn, headache, swelling due to retention of fluids, itching and ringing ears.
Avoid using pain, allergy or cold medication unless directed to do so. Many of these drugs have components similar to Naprosyn and taking them may amount to taking too much of this drug. First read its label to know whether it has ketoprophen, ibuprofen or aspirin.
Naprosyn may be harmful to foetus and consuming Naprosyn in the last trimester of pregnancy can cause birth defects. Naprosyn may also harm nursing babies since it passes into breast milk. In addition, the drug should only be given to children over the age of 2 years unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
How to store Naprosyn
Naprosyn should be stored in a safely covered container at room temperature and protected from extreme heat and light.
