Uses of Fluoxymesterone

Fluoxymesterone in used to treat deficiency of in testosterone, a male hormone when there is reduced production in the body. IT also encourages puberty in men whose puberty is delayed as well as managing breast cancer in females between 1 and five years after menopause.

The drug is actually an androgen that acts by encouraging normal grown of male genitalia and maintaining the usual secondary sexual characteristics. The appropriate fluoxymesterone dose that would work in treating breast cancer is unknown.

Fluoxymesterone should not be used if one is

  • pregnant or has plans to be pregnant
  • allergic to its ingredients
  • has prostate or breast cancer

Prior to using Fluoxymesterone

Fluoxymesterone may interact with certain medical conditions. Inform the pharmacist or doctor about any medical conditions you have and especially if you-

  • are under non-prescription or prescription medication, dietary supplement or herbal preparation
  • are breast-feeding
  • have high levels of blood calcium, prostate problems, kidney, liver or heart disease
  • are allergic to foods, medicines and other substances.

Fluoxymesterone may interact with some medicines. Inform the medical practitioner if you are under any medication especially-

  • Corticosteroids like prednisone, anticoagulants e.g. warfarin, macrolide immonusuppressants like tacrolimus, oxyphenbutazone or carbamazepine since the side effects and actions of the drugs may be heightened.

Be sure to consult your doctor if the drug would interact with the drugs you are taking. In addition, consult the doctor before starting, altering the dose or stopping the medication.

How fluoxymesterone should be used

Follow the prescriptions of your doctor when using fluoxymesterone. For accurate dosing instructions, check the drug’s label.

  • Fluoxymesterone can be taken alongside food. This is highly recommended in case of stomach upsets as it mitigates stomach irritation.
  • If you forget to take the drug, take it soonest time possible. If the time for the next dose is close, skip the dose you missed and resume the regular schedule. Never take two doses simultaneously to compensate for missed dose.

Crucial safety precautions

  • Diabetes patients- the drug may affect the blood sugar. Closely monitor your blood sugar and consult your doctor before changing dosage for diabetes medication
  • Fluoxymesterone may have tartrazine dye (FD&C Yellow No 5), that may result in allergic reactions for some individuals. Consult your pharmacist if you are allergic to tartrazine to determine whether the drug you are on contains tartrazine.
  • Young men taking the drug to manage delayed puberty must have their done development checked every six months.
  • Breast-feeding and pregnancy- pregnant women should never use the drug. Consult your physician in case of pregnancy suspicions. It is unknown whether fluoxymesterone is released through breast milk. Never breastfeed when taking fluoxymesterone.
  • The effectiveness and safety of the drug is not yet confirmed as far as using it on children is concerned thus not recommended.

  • Be cautious when using it on the elderly since they have more sensitivity to the drug’s effects, more so prostate problems.

Common fluoxymesterone side effects

All drugs may have side effects. However, many patients have minor or no side effects. Seek medical attention in case these side effects become bothersome or persist:

  • Reduced or increased sexual desire, headaches, swollen clitoris, prolonged painful erection, irregularity in the menstrual flow, facial hair growth, hoarse or deepening voice, breast tenderness or swelling, acne, absence of the menstrual flow

Seek immediate medical attention if the following serious side effects occur:

  • Weight gain, ankle swelling, nausea, vomiting, changes in the skin color, serious allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, hives, rashes, swelling of tongue, lips, face or mouth, and tightness in your test.

Be sure to consult your doctor in case of any questions on the side effects that may occur. Seek medical advice if the side effects actually do occur.

In case of overdose

Contact the emergency room or poison control center in your locality immediately.

How to store fluoxymesterone properly

Fluoxymesterone should be stored in room temperature ranging from 15 to 30m degrees C. Keep it away from moisture, light and heat. This rules out storage in your bathroom. Keep the drug where pets or children cannot reach them.
